PURCHASED UNIT FOR 2 GIRLS AGES 5 AND 3. FOUND OVERALL O.K. BUT LADDER DOES NOT HAVE GOOD HAND HOLDING AREAS, ALSO IF YOU PLAN TO USE IT AS TWO TWIN BEDS BE AWARE THEY WILL NOT BE THE SAME HEIGHT BY ABOUT 3 INCHES SO IF USED SIDE BY SIDE IT WILL BE VERY NOTICEABLE. ALSO SOME AREAS OF UPPER BUNK ARE NOT PAINTED AND ARE VISIBLE FROM LOWER BUNK. ALSO CRACKS VISIBLE IN PAINT FINISH FROM KNOTS IN THE WOOD. THIS IS NOT A DEFECT BUT IT IS NOT ATTRACTIVE. SUPPLIED SLAT ROLLS WERE POOR QUALITY. WHEN WE PURCHASED THIS BED THERE WAS AN OFFER FOR TWO FREE MATTRESSES WHICH WE ACCEPTED. THE FREE MATTRESSES WERE ONLY ABOUT 2 INCHES THICK AND CAME ROLLED UP IN A BOX, UNLESS YOU ARE ON A SERIUS BUDGET I WOULD SKIP THE FREE MATTRESSES.

Good - solid pine, sturdy, bottom bunk has plenty of room.
Bad - paint (pine knots show, small cracks visible, wood grain visible in some areas), moderately difficult to put together (need around 3 plus hours!)
Still not sure about the mattresses. They are thin but the kids seem to be ok with them.
Overall the bed is nice but I was expecting an immaculate paint job for the $600 plus price tag for this bed. Fortunately, to their credit, Hayneedle has agreed to to give a discount on the bed for my troubles.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was a nightmare. Curbside delivery does not apply when you live in a 3rd story condo. I had to go down to the second level to pick up the bed. The freight service wanted to charge me $238 dollars to hand deliver the bed to my door. They claimed it weighed 300 pounds and would require 2 people! It weighed 160 pounds and was very easy to get to my condo. What happen to customer service?
