I bought 2 of these beds for my twin daughters because I wanted storage space and we loved the look. It arrived 10 days after I placed the order and was in great condition. The rare flaws in the finish were minor and not really worth mentioning. As a mom who has put together furniture in the past, I found the assembly to be fairly easy. It took me approximately 3 hours for each bed. The drawer/shelf unit is separate, so it can be placed on either side of the bed, and I was thrilled to see that the part with the drawers came pre-assembled! The shelves can be attached to either side depending on your preference. I do think the instructions for the storage unit are not as clear, especially for someone who has not done anything like this before. There are 4 cam assemblys and it is not explained how to do them, but I had experience with cams in the past so I was ok. There are 3 height adjustments for the shelf. The storage unit was a tight fit on carpeting, but not unmanageable. With the 2nd bed, I found that it was easier to assemble the storage unit first, then the frame of the bed around it (and since I was by myself I used the storage unit to help keep the side rails level while attaching them to the head and foot boards). The drawers are pretty deep and the unit goes back almost half the width of the bed. The other side underneath the bed is open space. the sliding doors at the foot of the bed open in both directions, wich makes it nice to access the rest of the space under the bed for storage (or a kids hide-out) when up agains the wall! There are 13 slats that come in a "roll" attaced with 2 thick ribbons to keep them evenly spaced, making the frame very sturdy. There are predrilled holes for the scews in the slats, but not the side rail, so if you are doing it by hand like me (and not with an elecric scredriver) it can be hard on the hands. Overall we LOVE these beds!

After an extensive internet search, we settled on this as the first "big girl" bed for the 3yo girl's small bedroom. The design of the bed is perfect for the space. Bed is very nice and set up in just a few minutes. The dresser/book shelf unit came mostly assembled except for attaching the book shelf to the end of your choice. It is not finished quite as nicely as the bed but a very functional design and great for the money.

Recently purchased the Schoolhouse Captains Bed in White. I did alot of research both in local retailers and online. There is nothing out there like this item...only cheap junk partical board for alot less money. This bed LOOKED like a quality item from the picture and it was a little more on the expensive side so I thought it would be quality piece of furniture....boy, was I wrong. Although not the company's fault, when the bed arrived from shipping the headboard rail was ripped off. The veneer around the entire front side of the bed where the drawers are came unglued. The drawers are not properly aligned/(the tracks) so the drawers don't open properly. While putting the bed together the hardware actually broke. I could go on and on and on about the many defects. I can tell you for certain that this is not a fluke but rather poor construction so I declined to reorder another one. On the plus side, the customer service was very nice and understanding. They told me not to bother returning the bed and that they would just credit my account the full amount. So, although the other reviews are positive, don't take any chances...there is no way in the world this bed could ever be worth purchasing. I think a blind man would have done a better job making a bed.

The schoolhouse Captain bed arrived 2 days after I had placed the order, a lot faster than what I anticipated. It came in a big delivery truck and the driver was very friendly. I didn't get the bed put together right away because the room was repainted first and the carpet cleaned. My husband and I put it together. The only complaints I have are that the parts were not lettered such as a,b,c,c etc when it came to putting together basket end compartment together. It would make it much easier for everyone if these were lettered. Also the cams kept coming apart in the end shelves but the shelves are staying together and the bed looks beautiful. It is a very sturdy, high bed with a lot of space.

This bed is super cute. However, our bed arrived with many dings in the wood, the border of the drawers peeling/cracked and the appearance of the paint in the drawers not looking complete. Luckily my husband is a contractor and can fix these problems. Otherwise, we'd be sending it back and asking for a replacement. My 4 yr old loves it though and doesn't notice the extra work that will need to be done.
