This children's easel has a lovely pecan color stain of the wood. It is not plastic but wooden and seems very sturdy. We're planning on using it for my daughter's wedding and then later for children visiting our home. It was easy to assemble and the only disappointment was that it was damaged during shipment. The underside of the middle supply tray has a thin backing where the dowels stick out to attach to the easel's legs. A 1 in. x 3/4 in. section was broken off which we discovered as we removed the foam packing. Not really wanting to return it, we called the company to see if they could send a replacement supply tray. They do NOT have replacement parts, we were told. However, they did give me a 10% discount. Also, no paper comes with the easel. Its height is about 4 ft. and both sides have a smooth surface. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase and feel we'll get years of use out of it. Great price, too!
