Comments about Real Good Toys Playscale® Estate:
I am sure when we are finished it will be well worth it but my husband and I realized upon opening the first box that we may have underestimated the skill and time necessary to fully complete the task. We purchased this in plenty of time for Christmas and expected to put in a few hours several nights a week for several weeks. The details on the web are a bit misleading in that it sounds like it is just a bit more complex that some of the other childrens toys we have put together in the past (including a 5ft x 7 ft wood kitchen with sink, fridge, ect- so we are not a novice at building) but it is much more involved from a construction stance. This is not about putting screws and nails in the appropriate places- this is about skilled construction. I was in tears after opening realizing that getting this done for Christmas was not going to happen, and I quickly began looking for someone skilled enough to put the house together even if it cost me several hundred dollars. It would have been helpful to me to see options offered to buy the house with just the basic construction done- leaving the roofing, decorating and painting for me to do- I would gladly have paid $250 more for that option.I realize some houses have this option - but I needed one to be a playscale size for 11 1/2 inch dolls.I would love to see an easier construction option like when you purchase an executive desk for example- everything is labled and detailed so you just follow directions- the holes are made, you just screw everything in and then line it up and drop a bit of glue and put it together.None of the wood is labeled and you just have to use common sense to determine what goes where. Then there is the sanding- have to do it outside or in your garage- no matter the temperature- and there are a LOT of pieces to sand. There is no question that this dollhouse will last a lifetime and that the quality is 10 fold over the barbie houses offered in stores, but this is not a task for an individual with basic construction skills.
