Sandbox, Roof
Sand, Toys
Perfectly sized for backyard use, the Tierra-Derco Large Covered Wooden Sandbox will make an exciting spot for your children to play and be creative. This sandbox is constructed with water-treated pine wood that is safe for both children and pets. The vinyl roof will protect your children from sun and your sand from rain. Use the simple crank mechanism to lower the roof all the way down to cover the sand and protect it from neighborhood cats when not in use. Crank it back up when playtime arrives again. Red, blue, green, and yellow corners accent the beautiful wood construction, adding a touch of fun to the design.
This attractive wooden sandbox carries a one-year manufacturer's warranty. It can hold 200-400 pounds of sand. Sand is not included.

Wood sandboxes with a clear or stained finish should be re-treated every year or two to retain their smooth, protected exterior. We recommend a water-based finish, which is less toxic than an oil-based finish. Re-treating your wood sandbox will keep it smooth and conditioned. You can find wood finishes and sealers at your local hardware store.

I ordered this model because of the canopy/cover-what a great idea! We live in San Diego and get more than our share of blindingly sunny days so I wanted my daughter to have some protection without having the hassle of a separate cover. When it arrived in it's long narrow package I was a little nervous--I'm not terribly handy and the thought of putting this together was scary. Luckily I had my mom's help and even then it took us FOREVER to do. The directions are hilariously vauge and it wasn't until my dad, a carpenter, came over that we made any real progress. We found playsand [...] and filled the box with about 300lbs which seems a nice amount. My daughter is 19 months old and I think she and one or two friends can fit in there nicely. I don't think she'll be able to use it past three years old, it's just not big enough. All in all it's a great product, the parts are sturdy and well-made. If only it was easier to put together....

Instructions are poor. Must be mechanically inclined to assemble. Basic box is good quality. Screws are a little short in length. Roof supports were poor quality wood, cross beam was a little short and holes were drilled off center. Replacing these and doing the work yourself is inexpensive. The cranking roof concept is a good one. The sandbox is a good buy ONLY if you can get it at discount. And the box will be easy to move or replace parts when they weather. We could build this better and less expensive in the U.S.

Comments about Tierra-Derco Large Covered Wooden Sandbox:
This shipped faster than expected. The quality is terrific, the wood is sanded well and seems to have a finish on it already. The size is deceiving, but nonetheless perfect for my 1 year old. It was super, super easy to put together and the top comes up and down very easily. I love this and look forward to years of enjoyment!

Comments about Tierra-Derco Large Covered Wooden Sandbox:
This is one of the few sandboxes with attached covers making it great for us. It is large enough for 2-3 children to dig and play. The directions were vague in places and required some extra time in putting it together.

Q1: Does the Tierra-Derco TG231 have a bottom?
A: Bottoms are typically not included with sandboxes as they can trap rain and water. We recommend using landscape fabric as a bottom liner. Landscape fabric allows water to drain as well as keeps grass and weeds from growing up through the sand. Landscape fabric can be found at all major hardware stores and garden centers.
